Last Supper statue
The Last Supper, immortalised in Leonardo da Vinci's fresco in Milan (1495–1498), depicts the moment Christ tells his twelve disciples that one of them will betray him. Sculptural treatments of the scene compress thirteen figures into a single tableau of shock, devotion, and recognition. The meal itself — bread and wine identified as body and blood — became the founding act of every Christian Eucharist for the next two thousand years.
