Angel bookend left side

Bookend angels descend from a long tradition of placing celestial guardians at the corners of sacred space — at the four evangelists' positions in Romanesque churches, at the edges of medieval altarpieces, at the head and foot of carved tombs. Their role is to frame and protect what lies between them. Resting on shelves of poetry, scripture or philosophy, this paired guardian recalls the same ancient instinct: that words of weight deserve angelic company on either side.
