Zeus, king of the Olympians and god of sky, thunder, and law, ruled from the summit of Mount Olympus as supreme arbiter of gods and mortals. Wielding his thunderbolt and watched over by his sacred eagle, he was the father of heroes, the enforcer of oaths, and the ultimate authority in the Greek cosmos. For more than a thousand years, his sanctuary at Olympia drew athletes and pilgrims from every corner of the Hellenic world.
