Virgin Mary candle case

Lighting a candle before an image of the Virgin Mary is one of the oldest and most enduring acts of Christian devotion — practised continuously since the earliest catacomb shrines of Rome in the 2nd century. The candle, with its rising flame, has stood as the universal symbol of prayer that does not stop while the believer sleeps.
