Angel with a heart right view statue

The right-view counterpart in this paired set continues the Sacred Heart iconography on the opposite flank. In devotional altarpieces of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, two angels were customarily arranged on either side of the heart — one offering, one receiving — so that the gift was both given and gathered up. The pair carries the same gentle theology forward: love, in this tradition, is never solitary; it has companions on either side.
