Saint Michael candle case
The candle-bearing Saint Michael — armed angel standing guard, lit flame beside him — became a popular protective image in homes throughout Catholic Europe, particularly in southern Italy where his cult was strongest. The flame represents constant vigilance, and the warrior angel represents the divine assurance that evil does not have the last word.
