Poseidon, brother of Zeus and Hades, ruled the seas and shook the earth with his three-pronged trident. Worshipped by every Greek sailor who set sail, he could grant safe passage or summon storms that wrecked entire fleets. His sanctuary at Cape Sounion still stands above the Aegean — a temple to the god whose moods determined the fortune of the most maritime civilisation in history.
