Angel sitting on a sphere statue type 2
The second of this set of sphere-seated angels develops the same theme — the meeting of angel and orb — in a slightly altered pose. The whole motif draws on a long history of cosmic symbolism: the globus cruciger held by Christian emperors, the orb of dominion in coronation regalia, the celestial sphere of Ptolemaic astronomy. In each, the sphere stands for the world entrusted to care. Here the angel does not grip the orb but merely keeps it company — a posture closer to friendship than to authority.
