The two Graces crown the third
In the variant where two of the Graces crown the third with a wreath, the dance of the trio is paused at its tenderest moment. The crowning carries an old Greek meaning — the laurel of the victor, the myrtle of the bride, the simple flower garland of the celebration — and the act of one figure bestowing it on another draws all three into a single gesture of recognition. The composition turns the static elegance of the classical group into a small ceremony of mutual praise.
