Cycladic Couple Embrace
The Cycladic civilisation flourished on the Aegean islands from around 3200 BC — a thousand years before the Acropolis, when Britain was still in the Stone Age. Their minimalist white marble figures, abstract and serene, anticipated modern sculpture by five millennia and inspired Brancusi, Modigliani, and Henry Moore. This embracing couple belongs to that lineage: a meditation on human connection, stripped to its essential form, impossibly contemporary despite belonging to the deepest layer of Aegean memory.
