Hermes of Praxiteles bust statue

The Hermes of Praxiteles, discovered at Olympia in 1877, is one of the few original works believed to be by the hand of the great fourth-century master — a sculpture so refined that its surface seems to breathe. This portrait bust derives from that masterpiece and carries forward Praxiteles' revolutionary tenderness, which transformed gods from distant immortals into figures of unmistakable human grace.
