David (Michelangelo) exact copy
Michelangelo's "David", carved between 1501 and 1504, is perhaps the most famous statue in the world. The 5.17-metre marble depicts the biblical hero in the moment before he confronts Goliath — sling over the shoulder, brow furrowed in calculation, every muscle taut with controlled tension. Originally meant for the Florence Cathedral, it became the symbol of the Florentine Republic and now stands in the Galleria dell'Accademia, drawing more than a million visitors a year.
