Colossus of Rhodes statue

The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a thirty-three-metre bronze statue of the sun god Helios completed around 280 BCE by the sculptor Chares of Lindos to celebrate the Rhodians' victory over the besieging army of Demetrius Poliorcetes. It stood for only fifty-six years before an earthquake brought it down in 226 BCE, but it lingered in legend ever after. Pliny the Elder reported that even fallen it remained a wonder, the great fingers larger than most ordinary statues. The standing figure is the iconographic reconstruction, gathered from Roman coins and ancient descriptions.
