Romeo warrior Type 1 on a two-wheeled carriage

The Romeo warrior on a two-wheeled chariot continues the very oldest type of Greek heroic image — the warrior in his war chariot drawn from Mycenaean fresco, archaic vase painting and the great Homeric scenes of the Iliad. The two-wheeled chariot was the prestige vehicle of the Late Bronze Age, used by Achilles and Hector and by every Achaean lord arriving on the plain before Troy. As archaic Greek sculpture matured, the chariot became an emblem in dedications at Olympia and Delphi celebrating equestrian victories. This figure descends from that lineage, the warrior at speed on the most prestigious of all ancient frames.
