Pandora statue

Pandora was the first mortal woman, fashioned by Hephaestus at Zeus's command as punishment for Prometheus's gift of fire to humanity. Endowed with beauty by every god, she was sent to earth with a sealed jar — the so-called "Pandora's box" — which, when opened out of curiosity, released all the troubles of the world. Only Hope remained inside, the single thread of comfort the Greeks left to themselves.
